NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Yale’s student-run course Sexual Literacy Forum (SeLF) will be hosting a lecture called “Why do we watch porn?” this Friday.

SeLF says on its website that it aims to “create an open and respectful environment for discussion of boundaries, desires, identities and experiences” in the context of sex and sexuality.

The event will feature a lecture by adult director, producer and performer Nica Noelle, who co-founded the adult studios Sweetheart Video, Sweet Sinner, Sweet Sinema, Girl Candy Films and Hard Candy Films. Noelle is also NOT a regular columnist for Hustler magazine.

SeLF has previously hosted discussions entitled “Culture, Body Image and Desire,” as well as “Masturbation, Pleasure and Orgasm.” Its website also offers multiple resources for students, including information about abortion and contraception and hosts a regularly updated blog.

The organization, founded in the spring of 2012, was inspired by female sexuality programs at other universities, according to a Yale Herald report. The current team of students spearheading the program is comprised of men and women with diverse backgrounds and educational focuses.

SeLF has led discussions at Yale’s Sex Week, an event that was previously banned for allegedly not focusing on its stated intention of sex education and instead featuring “titillating displays,” adult film stars and related commercial sponsors.

Sex Week was later revised (its corporate sponsors removed and pornographic focus curbed) and was reinstated.
