LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Noted sociologist and adult industry expert Dr. Chauntelle Tibbals will give the real low-down on the porn business when she hosts a pre-release event for her book, Exposure: A Sociologist Explores Sex, Society, and Adult Entertainment, on Thursday, June 4. The gathering will be held from 7-8 p.m. at Hustler Hollywood, 6007 Dean Martin Drive in Las Vegas.
The program will feature Dr. Chauntelle reading excerpts from her book, set to release on July 7 by Greenleaf Book Group. There will also be a Q&A session, followed by a book signing. Advanced copies of the book will be available for purchase.
“I’m very much looking forward to seeing fans and book lovers who want to know more about the adult industry,” Dr. Chauntelle said. “My goal in writing Exposure was to provide a compelling and fresh look at the business of adult entertainment, which demystifies some of the misconceptions and stereotypes surrounding pornography.”
Hustler Hollywood is the perfect location for the pre-release event, as former Larry Flynt Publications Vice President Theresa Flynt wrote the book’s foreword
In the book’s foreword, Theresa Flynt writes “In Exposure, Chauntelle offers fascinating insight into the adult industry’s inner workings, from film sets to business operations. She offers readers the chance to explore a mysterious world through her eyes – the eyes of an informed, sex-positive, empowered woman.”
“But as interesting as her accounts are,” continues the Flynt’s foreword, “I found myself drawn even more to the plight she has endured in order to be taken seriously by another peer group – researchers and academics.”
The “must-read” book on the porn industry is gaining traction thanks to pre-orders and positive reviews, as it remains atop the Amazon chart for upcoming books on “Social Science: Study of Pornography.” To pre-order the book, click here.
Exposure has gained the attention and praise from academics, media, and adult industry members in recent months. UNLV’s Kathryn Hausbeck Korgan, Ph.D., author of The State of Sex, said readers will get a “better understanding of an often misunderstood industry and a fresh perspective (of porn).”
Brian Alexander, author of America Unzipped: The Search for Sex and Satisfaction, wrote, “Dr. Chauntelle has never failed to impress me with her insight and honesty about (the adult industry).” Corinne Reczek, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Departments of Sociology and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, hailed Exposure’s accessibility, calling the book a “sociologically sound study of the porn industry.”
Exposure is a compelling first-hand narrative with a no-holds barred testimonial challenging existing stereotypes about sex and adult entertainment from the perspective of one of its foremost experts. She recounts humorous personal tales at her first adult industry trade convention, reflects on being an AVN Awards judge, and discusses her struggles as a scholar interested in learning more about adult entertainment.
Dedicated to evaluating and understanding the world’s diversifying roles of gender, sexuality, and sex work, as well as unbiased studies of the functioning of the social world, Chauntelle Tibbals, Ph.D., is one of the premier experts on adult entertainment and its effects on society. From writing riveting columns examining the value of porn as art on Uproxx.com, to debunking myths surrounding men adult film stars on MensHealth.com, and writing about porn star “bromances” on Playboy.com, Dr. Chauntelle works to enhance understanding of unconventional communities in the general public.
