LAKE WORTH, Fla., Nov. 2 (UPI) — A Florida woman has been charged with rape after her partner said what began as rough sex turned into a criminal sexual assault. Mia McCarthy, 23, a self-described “sadomasochist,” has been charged with battery, domestic battery strangulation, rape and attempted murder, police said.

The victim, a 52-year-old woman who McCarthy was dating, said on several occasions what began as rough sex turned violent, including what detectives described as forcible rape with a “marital aid,” the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported Thursday.

McCarthy told police the couple enjoyed rough sex that would occasionally leave marks or bruises but never intended to hurt the victim. She said they didn’t use a safe word during the encounters and saying “no” really meant saying “yes.”
