Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi takes a stand to deny a lesbian couple the right to divorce.
Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi is finally taking a stand on divorces by denying a lesbian couple of Lake Worth, Fla., the right to divorce.
Not only has she vowed to continue fighting against marriage equality, now Bondi (who has been divorced twice and had an unofficial commitment ceremony in the Cayman Islands in 2012), is continuing her crusade to preserve “traditional marriage” in Florida. Bondi filed papers in Broward County Wednesday urging the court to not grant Heather Brassner and Megan Lade a petition for divorce, according to New Times Broward-Palm Beach.
“Attorney General Bondi should not hold our state and out families hostage by calling for the stay to remain in place,” Equality Florida CEO Nadine Smith said in a statement. “Let her follow the lead of the 9th Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court and allow marriages to commence. Every day that Floridians are denied access to the protections only marriage can provide, our families summer.”
