A few days ago, my BFF tagged me in the following quote from Anne McClintock on Facebook.
“Society demonizes sex workers because they demand more money than women should, for services men expect for free.”
Despite instantly un-tagging myself, I was stoked on the quote. But then I started reading the comments. Never read the comments. What I found was “feminists” trampling women they instantly labeled as mentally unstable, addicted, and abused. Women who must not be reasonable people for “choosing” the “job,” just like that, with the quotation marks, as if to say that sex work as a choice is preposterous, and that as a profession, it’s laughable. As someone who is a sex worker, I find it incredibly insulting that “feminists” would behave in a way that marginalizes an already isolated group of women. How did feminism progress into something that makes me feel less than equal?
