On Tuesday, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors adopted a motion authored by Supervisor Sheila Kuehl to “to develop and implement a plan for a robust, comprehensive program to deliver Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) in Los Angeles County,” to help prevent HIV transmission.
PrEP is an HIV prevention method that involves taking a daily pill to reduce the risk of infection.
The Center for Disease Control, the Food and Drug Administration, and the County’s own Department of Public Health have all reviewed the scientific data and concluded that PrEP is an effective tool in fighting the spread of HIV.
