More and more Irish people have been accessing pornographic websites since the age of austerity kicked in.
And the emergence of smartphones and other mobile devices, which means porn can be accessed almost anywhere, has also contributed to the porn phenomenon here.
One of the world’s biggest pornographic video-sharing websites claims Ireland’s porn habit has increased by 77% since 2010, with 6.72 million visits every month.
The site, pornhub.com, collected data from Irish users over the last four years and says that people here spend an average of 9 minutes and 12 seconds per viewing session looking at pornographic content and click on 8.49 pages.
South Dublin, Fingal, Kildare, Limerick and Galway city also show a slightly greater demand for porn, while Naas, Swords and Letterkenny are among the top 10 areas for traffic to the site.
Generally, though, all the main urban areas have broadly similar patterns of usage. There is no Irish “capital” of porn.
We watch more porn in the cold depths of January but demand drops in September.
