Stop Porn Culture, are you communist?

An provocative new post from Ban Porn (Not) —

Dear Stop Porn Culture (stoppornculture.org),

I am writing to you as I think you have forgotten to mention on your site that your organisation is about “fighting capitalism” and “fighting big businesses” (5.18 of the vid). Now that to me sounds like you’re a communist organisation.

Personally I have no problem if your organisation is communist. However I did not see any mention of your ”fighting capitalism” on your site. It’s not in your mission statement.

Yet clearly the Stop Porn Culture representative states this that the organisation is about ”fighting capitalism”.

I am not trying to suggest that you’re deceiving people; I presume you have forgotten to mention this on your site. Or in your presentations.

1. It is easy out here for a pimp

2. Who wants to be a “porn star?” (full version with presenter comments)

3. Who wants to be a “porn star?” (short version)

We just have to remember that while some of your supporters may support communism some of your members and supporters may not…and may feel foolish that they are now supporting you on this. By the way I am not saying you are a communist organisation, it’s just that ”fighting capitalism”, or anti-capitalism, tends to mean communist. I believe that is the definition of anti-capitalism.

It would also explain why you quote how much money the porn industry makes, both on your site as well as in your presentations.

  • Oh, please. Stop Porn Culture is about as "communist" or "anti-capitalist" as a tree stump on the side of the road. They may use the rhetoric of the Left to sell their core message, but that's not stopping them from open affiliation with some of the most right-wing organizations.

Plus, there are many levels of "anti-capitalist" organization, from liberal/"progressive" to social democrat to democratic socialist to libertarian socialist (yes, those folks exist, see Emma Goldman); and not all or even a majority of those who self-identify as Leftists buy into the antiporn "feminist" ideology.

Oh, and BTW...that "$13 billion a year" figure is pretty much bogus, since that was at the height of the economic boom, and $13B wouldn't even cover the gross profits of one multinational company (Walmart) for one year. These people know as much about corporate power as they know about sexuality....that is, they don't know jackpoop.

  • Actually, no, they're not communists, though they'd dearly love to be thought of as such, given that Prof. Dines and Co.identify as anti-capitlalist leftists, which is useful cover for their neo-con views about sex commerce, which is their only real focus. That they make common cause with the likes of Donna Hughes and David Cameron pretty much excludes them from the international socialist realm. Moreover, I have yet to see anyone from SPC make reference to the hideous abuses women suffer in any part of the world outside of the West, to broaden their hyperventilating stand against sex trafficking to include the far more common and dangerous forms of force labor to which women are subjected in world industry from sweatshops in Indonesia to Apple's locked-down factories in China.

One might think a nominally leftist organization with a specific focus on women's issues might take an interest in such things. But noooo. There is absolutely no worse form of oppression visited upon women anywhere than the existence of sex commerce in the industrialized West.

This is yet another example of rad-fem obsessions with what real leftists derisively call First World problems.

SPC and all its allies are predictably classist and racist in their mad fixation on a matter that affects a tiny percentage of the women, poor people and persons of color in the world.

Speaking as a life-long leftist myself, I don't think SPC and it's pals have done one thing to earn the right to call themselves communists.

Crypto-fascist assholes comes a lot closer.
