A new television series starring Jennifer Love Hewitt portrays a masseuse who learns quickly that providing extra services to her massage clients can be very lucrative.
Jennifer’s character is an ordinary masseuse who makes her fortune after discovering that providing extras pays handsomely.
The series, quite understandably, has drawn numerous complaints from legitimate massage therapy workers.
Jennifer said of the criticism: ‘I feel badly that they feel offended, but I respect that people need to say what they need to say.
‘I tried to make a joke on Twitter that I wondered why people were not writing to Dexter about killing people, or to Nurse Jackie about taking drugs on the job.
‘Those are big, big television characters audiences love and adore so if there can be a serial killer we all like, I feel like a happy-endings specialist is the least of our worries.’
And she insists the show should be allowed to use its artistic licence: ‘At the end of the day, though, it’s a television series. I’m not saying every massage parlour in the world gives happy endings.
‘Nor do I know which ones do, but it is a part of our society. And even if it wasn’t, it’s just a part of our story. It’s entertainment.’
Jennifer has been dressed to the nines for her role as a masseuse who offers ‘extras’ in the steamy TV show, which airs in April on American channel Lifetime.
Earlier in the week Jennifer was seen on set in a scarlet bandage dress that showed off her every curve.
It came the day after the Ghost Whisperer actress celebrated her birthday with a big bunch of balloons and was seen enjoying a lunch with her girlfriends in between takes.
Jennifer is reprising her role in The Client List after playing a similar character, albeit of a different name, in the television movie of the same title.
According to Lifetime, the series won’t be a continuation of the movie, which was based on a real life prostitution scandal that happened in Odessa, Texas, but rather a reimagining.
Jennifer portrays Riley Parks, a single mother who begins working in a spa to get some fast cash after being abandoned by her husband.
Riley quickly realises there’s more than just facials and massages on the menu, and teams up with salon owner to provide ‘extras’.
It’s then a struggle to balance her double life, as she tries to make sure her children and mother (played by Cybill Shepherd) don’t discover what her new job is really all about.
