Stick a fork in him, he’s done #removeWeinstein

A great piece from Sayen CroWolf  in support of the online petition to #removeWeinstein—

Stick a fork in him, he’s done

Finally the time has come: Michael Weinstein has to go.  He’s completely turned the AIDS Healthcare Foundation into a cocktail party joke and over time that will be at the ultimate expense of the very people he’s been charged with protecting through AHF services.

I’ve advocated for his removal for years.  His embarassing puerile “No Magic Pills” campaign to try and rally the general public into derailing Truvada as PrEP.  The result?  Absolutely nothing.  He somehow phenagled 600 doctors to sign onto his petition (out of the 2 million registered with the AMA), and when the FDA was holding hearings on Truvada as PrEP, he wasn’t even invited to the table.

Or how about his spending massive amounts of time and cash to try and force the porn industry into the alley and out of business.  How’d that one wrap up? (pardon the pun).  An absolutely unenforceable law that’s doing nothing more than driving porn production companies out of LA to a less restricted locale.

The list is endless.

Sorry, I have to say it: he’s nuts.  And he has to go. The only time in the last three years that AHF or Michael Weinstein has made headlines isn’t for their service to the HIV/AIDS community — it’s for one of his latest rants/tirades that have nothing to do with HIV or AIDS.  And usually it’s both AHF and Weinstein that get the fuzzy end of that lollipop.

His latest – and hopefully last faux paux? Here ya go:

Michael Weinstein, president of AIDS Healthcare Foundation, recently described Truvada as a “party drug” in an interview with the Associated Press. (Weinstein’s full quote was: “If something comes along that’s better than condoms, I’m all for it, but Truvada is not that. Let’s be honest: It’s a party drug.”)

Enough with this man, give him his severance and a box to pack up the office in.  The general LGBT public is smelling something foul in the air with him, and HIV/AIDS advocates – myself included – are tired of mopping up behind him.

He should be fired.

  • I saw this coming down Broadway a year ago. Weinstein has been very unpopular in quarters far beyond the porn community for a long time but until he made such a buffoon of himself in the media they were afraid to take him on.

It would appear that he no longer strikes terror in the hearts of his foes, and when you have no friends that can be a real problem.
