State Assemblymember Isadore Hall III has re-introduced a bill that would make it mandatory to use condoms on adult film shoots throughout the state.
Hall, D-Compton D-AHF, first introduced the bill last year but it died in the Appropriations Committee. The new bill, AB 1576, was read for the first time on Jan. 30 and will not be taken up in committee until March.
The law is similar to Measure B, the ballot initiative approved by voters in November 2012 that requires condom usage on adult film sets within Los Angeles County, and an ordinance passed by the Los Angeles City Council in January 2012.
The adult entertainment industry will lobby against the bill just as it did last year, said Diane Duke, chief executive of the Free Speech Coalition, the Canoga Park trade organization for the adult industry.
The AIDS Healthcare Foundation is a major backer of Hall’s bill as well as the Los Angeles county and city measures.
Attempts to reach a representative of AHF on the new bill were not successful.
