Police are investigating after a mob of women got into a bloody street brawl on Sunday as a result of a series of Facebook posts.
More than 30 women gathered for a pre-planned fight at a Sacramento-area parking lot, swinging fists, baseball bats and broken glass at one another in a throwdown that left two women in critical condition.
Police believe one of the women had recently discovered her husband was cheating and saw Facebook posts made by his alleged mistress about an affair.
According to The Toronto Star, rumblings of a fight between the two women at an intersection in Del Paso Heights spread, prompting dozens to show up at approximately 4pm on Sunday.
All suspects had fled by the time police arrived.
Sacramento police would not release the exact content of the Facebook messages.
Officer Michele Gigante told the Star: ‘It was about infidelities, some types of postings about those things, it obviously got her upset enough to want to fight the woman. It turned into a bit of a melee.’
Public Information Officer Sergeant Andrew Petit told CBS Sacramento two people sustained major injuries after they were hit with baseball bats. Both women required stitches.
Petit said one of the women broke a glass candle holder from a nearby roadside memorial and used it as a weapon.
A witness told police the two women came into a convenience store across the street to buy drinks during the fracas.
Patricia Brandon told CBS: ‘They looked angry and tired, I guess from fighting.’
