• Anyone know who the performer is?

• As usual, the condoms-down-your-throat crowd is already crowing over this. Nothing puts the sunshine in their days like a new HIV case in porn.

  As of now we have no reliable information regarding who the positive test is, what work that person has done and whether or not there have been any dangerous contacts.

  And to get something straight here, those of us involved in setting up the testing system understood from the start that no system developed by human beings would be 100% effective. HIV exists in the larger population and there will always be some chance of it turning up among performers. Neither testing nor condoms (check the stats on infected gay performers who are all-condom-no-testing) will entirely prevent this and combining the two, while not a bad idea, doesn't make the boogeyman go away.

  What was a bad idea as those of us at AIM warned at the time, was allowing hostile, politically motivated outsiders from dismantling the extremely successful system of safeguards we had in place that kept the number of confirmed on-set HIV transmissions in het porn down to a TOTAL of 2 in AIM's dozen years of operation. By contrast, LA County had nearly 30,000 new HIV infections during that same period.

  Now that we no longer have a performer-operated community based centralized system of testing and monitoring, as we warned at the time, the system has become less reliable. AHF and friends went to a lot of trouble and expense to create a risk that they could then use as justification for attempting to inflict their political agenda on everybody else at whatever cost to individual lives.

  The usual assholes are playing the usual blame games but the real blame lands directly on Mikey Weinstein's balding little head. No amount of yapping from him or anyone else will ever change that reality.

  They broke something that worked just fine and now demand to be allowed to fix it. They're the least qualified for the job and what they've done to get it qualifies them for the hottest hole in hell.

• Crossovers are not a good thing for straight porn. Too much risk.
