Luka Magnotta judge tells jury candidates to expect ‘shocking and disturbing’ evidence

The gruesome murder trial of a former Canadian porn actor accused of killing and dismembering a Chinese student is underway.

MONTREAL — The judge in the Luka Magnotta murder trial told prospective jurors to expect “shocking and disturbing” evidence as jury evaluation began Monday at a Montreal courthouse.

Superior Court Judge Guy Cournoyer told hundreds of candidates that “{the violence, the sexual nature (of evidence) could be shocking and disturbing.”

However, the judge said the video evidence does not include images of the actual killing.

Magnotta, a 32-year old Toronto native, is accused in the murder of Chinese student Jun Lin on May 25, 2012, in a Montreal apartment.

The former small-time porn actor is also charged with indignity to a human body after body parts were mailed to Liberal and Conservative offices in Ottawa, as well as to two Vancouver schools.

One woman candidate began trembling and crying Monday as soon as she saw Magnotta in the prisoner’s box, flanked by three guards and wearing a navy blue T-shirt. The woman was immediately exempted from jury duty.

Another candidate was excused after telling the court “for me, Magnotta should have been castrated two years ago.”
