New UK Study Finds Sex Workers Happier Than Most

A new study indicates that sex workers tend to be happy with their profession, and aren’t being forced into their line of work.

London Metropolitan University conducted a government-funded study. Researchers interviewed 100 foreign men and women working in the London sex industry.

Contrary to the popular misconception, the sex workers interviewed claimed that they are content with their decision and do not feel that they are being pressured to travel down a road of less than scrupulous activities.

Ninety-four percent of the study group said they weren’t coerced into the sex trade. Indeed, most of the people chose the sex trade because they were tired of dead-end desk jobs, and the daily grind in general. The sex trade offers flexible hours that 9-to-5 can’t.

Many said they liked the prospects of meeting new, interesting people in their field. They also claimed they didn’t feel that it would be possible to maintain the same standard of living with a regular career.

The entire study is quite lengthy. If you wish to download or read the findings report in .pdf format in its entirety, click here or visit ESRC Project: Migrants in the UK Sex Industry website.
