Jurassic televangelist Pat Robertson warned 700 Club viewers against traveling to Kenya for missionary work this week because “the towels could have AIDS.”
His false observation came in response to a viewer who wrote in during Thursday’s show, seeking advice on traveling to east Africa in light of the recent west African Ebola outbreak. The viewer claimed God had summoned them to Africa on a mission trip, but they were nervous about potentially contracting the disease.
Robertson laughed at the thought of contracting Ebola in west Africa, noting that there isn’t an Ebola outbreak in Kenya right now. For him, the risk of contracting AIDS in Kenya is much higher:
“You might get AIDS in Kenya, people have AIDS, you’ve got to be careful. I mean, the towels could have AIDS.”
