RI bill would require background checks for strip clubs

Rhode Island lawmakers are considering a bill that would mandate background checks for the adult entertainment industry.

The legislation was filed by Attorney General Peter Kilmartin. He said it addresses the issue of prostitution and alleged human trafficking at places like strip clubs.

The bill would require criminal background checks for everyone from owners, operators, employees and independent contractors.

The House Judiciary Committee has scheduled a hearing on the bill Tuesday.

In July, Providence police arrested a man who was using a 15-year-old girl to dance and engage in prostitution at Cheaters Gentleman’s Club. According to police, the girl was using a fake ID.

  • How about background checks for public officials? Maybe if they concentrated on that we'd end up with fewer crooked hacks living high on the taxpayers' money.

  • I hope they post the results on the wall. That way I can tell which ones have been arrested for hooking and which ones "student" visa is almost up, so they are desperate to earn.
