Sex and drugs boosts Britain’s global economic ranking to fifth place

British spending on sex and drugs means our economy has now overtaken France as the world’s fifth largest economy.

The UK’s growth is now expected to outstrip Germany in 2030 but fall behind India’s economy by 2024, according to world economic league table data released today by CEBR.

The world’s largest economy is still the United States with a Gross Domestic Product(GDP) of $17,528bn – but this could all change by 2029 if China’s economy overtakes it as expected.

Money made through prostitution and drug taking has been included in Britain’s GDP figures this year – boosting GDP to $2,828bn, up from $2,536bn in 2013.
