Sexually Transmitted Disease Shared by Millions of College StudentS

AHF needs to make these kids wear condoms. Lol

There are about 19 million students on college campuses in the US and one out of four is transmitting a sexual disease. The number may be even higher as many cases go unreported until serious symptoms appear. The college students that carry the disease infect anyone who has a sexual encounter with them.

On March 27, 2012, CampusTalkBlog published “You could catch this on your next date” including a diagram showing how the diseases are passed from one student to another during unprotected sex. It also includes statistics and facts about sexual diseases.

Risk Factors

The diagram begins with the risk factors involved that include alcohol, improper and inconsistent use of condoms, inadequate sex education, and misunderstanding of oral contraception. Many students do not seem to understand that condoms are not only to prevent pregnancy but are just as important in avoiding becoming infected with a sexually transmitted disease.

Facts and Factors

According to US Center for Disease Control estimates 19 million new sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) occur each year with almost half of them affecting 15-24 year-olds. The reason is that 95% of them have unprotected sex.

The diagram presented by the CampusTalkBlog also shows the symptoms for:

Aids/HIV

Herpes

Chlamydia

Gonorrhea

Hepatitis B&C

Syphilis

Behavior, lifestyle choices and incorrect information contine to add to the increase of SDSs seen on college campuses.
