Monica Vaughan of the Appeal-Democrat reports, “Pauling was moved from Sutter County Jail after allegations were made that he also victimized a child related to a Sheriff’s Department employee.”
Pauling, 41, was arrested last week, and charged with multiple felonies “after a 16-year-old girl told Sutter County sheriff’s investigators on Nov. 30 that Pauling had sexual contact with her for the last three years.”
Pauling was arraigned and held on $500,000 bail after he pleaded not guilty on Thursday, Dec. 4, in Sutter County Superior Court.
According to the Appeal-Democrat:
That victim then disclosed on Saturday that there was a second victim, according to Lt. James Casner.
Casner said the department will keep Pauling out of its jail and hand the investigation over to the Sutter County District Attorney’s Office “because the victim is related to one of our employees.”
Pauling, 41, was moved to the Colusa County Jail on Saturday, “for security purposes” and “for transparency,” Casner said.
Deputy District Attorney Anu Chopra said the second alleged victim has been interviewed and Chopra will be filing new charges.
Pauling was scheduled to return to Sutter County Superior Court today for a bail review hearing and a preliminary pretrial conference. The outcome of that hearing is not clear at press time, although information online still lists his bail at $500,000, which, incidentally, is five times the scheduled bail amount.
Pauling’s case was continued until after the new year as the Deputy District Attorney announced plans to file additional charges against the anti-porn crusader.
According to the Appeal-Democrat, “when he was last in court, Chopra said the alleged victim reported Pauling was obsessed with her and she was scared.”
