Michigan man seeking $20,000 for surgery to shrink 100-pound scrotum

Dan Maurer didn’t think anyone understood what it felt like to walk around with a 100-pound scrotum. But then he heard of Wesley Warren.

Warren was the subject of a TLC documentary, “The Man with the 132-Pound Scrotum.”

“I was like, that’s what I have,” Maurer, who lives in Michigan, told WZZM13.

It’s called scrotal lymphedema and it’s caused by lymphatic vessel blockages. The condition has made his scrotum balloon since his late 20s.

Misdiagnosed for years, his doctors advised him to lose weight. He did, but it didn’t fix the problem. He spent two years getting treatment at a wound center, but to no avail. Finally, upon seeing Warren’ story, he didn’t feel so alone.

Though Warren’s scrotum was removed last April, he died in March, from a combination of diabetes and heart attacks.

Now, Maurer, 39, is raising money to see a doctor in California who can surgically reduce his scrotum’s size. He’s hoping to raise $20,000 on GoFundMe for the procedure. He’s doing it all, he told the station, for his wife, Mindy Barrios.
