Operator of MyRedbook sex work website gets 13 months in prison

By Henry K. Lee

A Mountain View man was sentenced Thursday to 13 months in federal prison for running a Bay Area-based website that for years catered to prostitutes and clients before it was shut down by the FBI.

Eric Omuro, 53, entered a guilty plea in December before U.S. District Judge William Orrick in San Francisco to using a facility of interstate commerce with the intent to facilitate prostitution.

As part of a plea deal, Omuro admitted that from 2010 to 2014 he owned and ran the website MyRedbook.com, which hosted ads posted by prostitutes containing explicit photos, graphic descriptions of sexual services offered and rates. The ads were searchable by location.

Omuro agreed to forfeit the domain names sfredbook.com and myredbook.com, as well as more than $1.28 million in cash, authorities said.

A woman who helped Omuro run the website, 40-year-old Annmarie Lanoce of Rocklin (Placer County), pleaded guilty in November to aiding and abetting in interstate and foreign travel in aid of a racketeering enterprise.
