Square Is The Preferred Payment Method For Silicon Valley Sex Workers

When you live in a place like Silicon Valley, you have to stay up-to-date with the latest technological innovations, no matter your profession. The sex workers in the mecca of tech have done just that. Many of Bay Area’s prostitutes have started using the popular app Square to accept payment, according to CNN.

Prostitution has been on the rise in Silicon Valley, reports CNN. For example, prostitution arrests went up 35 percent from 2010 to 2011 in San Jose, Calif. Guys working in tech tend to have a good amount of money to burn, and sex workers definitely take advantage of that, purposefully branding themselves as nerd-friendly.

They’re also utilizing the products their clients created. Square is a free app that comes with a free credit card reader that plugs right into your iPhone or iPad. It’s popular with small businesses, which seems to be what these sex workers consider themselves. One of the women told CNN how she bills her clients using Square: “I file it under a different business name… As far as Square knows, it’s a consulting business.” Prostitutes and other sex workers often take their business online and use sites like Facebook to advertise.

The high-tech region’s dating scene has already gotten its fair share of scrutiny. Events like “cougar nights,” parties where older women and younger men are paired up, were recently profiled in Vanity Fair.

  • Checks provide just as much of a paper trail as credit cards do. With the current legal environment prostitution needs to be cash only. As for "Imposter" Foster I would think you learned your lesson from that hinky baseball player that bounced a check on you.
