Undercover police in Indianapolis have blown the lid off a clandestine high end prostitution ring run by a suspected Ukrainian madam.
Anzhelika Rampone, 29, who is thought to go by the name ‘Natasha’, is on the run after police busted the organization on Tuesday near the Fashion Mall at Keystone after months of investigation.
The sting operation has so far led to the arrest of call girl, Veronika Leblanc, 23, who was apprehended at the Sheraton Hotel and police hope to learn the names of others involved from materials discovered at various locations.
‘The price of admission was high, so if you can’t get in the door, then you’re not going to see them,’ an undercover IMPD detective told NBC News of the unusually high-end racket.
Emails sent directly from ‘Natasha’ to undercover police laid out pricing that ranged from $550 for an hour with Ms Leblanc to $800 for two hours of her services.
Rendezvous between Ms Leblanc and her clients were made by an underground word-of-mouth system.
‘Certainly, the money involved was higher than normally what we would see,’ he added after his meeting with Ms Leblanc at the Sheraton and her subsequent arrest.
Police confiscated $605 in cash, two iPhones and a 2007 Honda Accord during the bust and later found computers, phones and thousands of dollars in cash at her apartment.
At Ms Rampone’s residence, the Indy Star reported at least $275,000 was confiscated along with Russian designer jewellery and electronic records of the operation.
‘There could be appointment books, there could be records with peoples names,’ explained the detective.
He added: ‘It did appear that there were other women that she worked with who worked for her, but we have not been able to confirm all their identities.’
Ms Rampone and Ms Leblanc are both naturalized U.S. citizens originally from the Ukraine who married American men and separated from them shortly after arriving in the country.
Police say Ms Rampone’s last known address was in California. When she is found, she will face charges of promoting prostitution.
Ms Leblanc has been charged with prostitution and posted bail at $300.
