LOS ANGELES (June 30, 2014) – Noted sociologist and adult industry expert Chauntelle Tibbals, Ph.D. will discuss adult entertainment’s impact on society and culture on Public Radio affiliate KZYX’s “Mind, Body, Health, & Politics” at 9 a.m. PDT on Tuesday, July 1.
Dr. Chauntelle will also talk about her career, as well as her upcoming live video appearance at 3 p.m. EST on July 22 on MindBrowse.com, where she will lead an interactive discussion titled “Women in Porn: Shattering the Myths.” The event will feature prominent women from adult entertainment, including Penthouse’s Managing Director Kelly Holland and adult star Ash Hollywood, pitted against porn’s harshest critics.
“Mind, Body, Health, & Politics,” hosted by Clinical Psychologist Dr. Richard Louis Miller, airs on Public Radio affiliate KZYX FM, as well as online at www.MindBodyHealthPolitics.org. It features wide-ranging discussions on political issues and health, giving guests and listeners an interactive forum and soundboard for important and controversial issues.
“Pornography is the number one selling business on the planet, yet the social stigma surrounding it makes it the least understood,” states Dr. Richard Louis Miller. “Now comes Dr. Chauntelle Tibbals, who courageously, and despite challenges to her professional career, has become an embedded sociologist in the porn industry. Let us give her a platform and hear what she has to teach us.”
Known for her extensive research into the adult industry, Dr. Chauntelle has become a leading authority into the impact, dynamics, and social relevance of adult content and the implications of laws targeting porn on free speech and society as a whole. Her work, published in academic journals, has examined workplace safety and autonomy within the adult industry, as well as the stigma experienced by women workers who are not performers due to their involvement in the industry.
“The adult industry is a lot more than people having sex on camera – it has a huge social impact that goes well beyond the obvious dimensions of entertainment and economics,” Dr. Chauntelle says. “Adult entertainment factors into every aspect of contemporary culture, from family to media and virtually everything we do and see around us.”
The noted sociologist, recently featured in the newest edition of The Real World: An Introduction to Sociology, will answer questions from listeners regarding all socio-cultural aspects of the adult entertainment industry, gender, sexuality, technology, and more.
“I truly hope listeners will join us and participate in this valuable discussion of the adult industry’s impact on us individually and as a whole,” Dr. Chauntelle adds.
