Journalist Sheila Wellers did not hold back any secrets about the lives of high-profile newswomen Katie Couric, Diane Sawyer and Christiane Amanpour in her new book The News Sorority. The book accused Couric of saying that Sawyer did sexual favors in exchange for big stories.
According to Starpulse, Weller’s book contained a comment that Couric allegedly made about Sawyer giving oral sex. Sawyer reportedly did so to land the story about a 57-year-old woman who gave birth to twins.
“I wonder who she blew this time to get it,” Couric reportedly said.
Although Weller praises the women, she still implies that they are not as innocent as they seem, especially in their brutal business. She also writes that Couric is a bully with “a chip on her shoulder,” and that Sawyer treated her staff badly with “staged humility,” reported the NY Daily News.
A friend of Couric accused Weller of “relying on classic anti-feministic caricatures” and designing the book in a way that the content was “tabloid-like misrepresentations and outright falsehoods about these three extraordinary women.”
The News Sorority goes in sale Sept. 30. Reps for Sawyer and Amanpour made no comment regarding the accusations.
