A Long Island mother of four was arrested on Thursday after authorities say she offered to engage in illegal sexual conduct with an undercover cop from a hot dog truck.
CBS reports detectives were tipped off by witnesses who grew suspicious of 45-year old Catherine Scalia’s makeshift roadside truck operation and “the way she dressed.”
When investigating, undercover police noticed provocative business cards titled “Strips -R-Us” and advertising services such as “topless cleaning” and “one-on-one strips.”
When a detective inquired about the cards, Scalia instructed the officer to head back to her home, where later she performed a strip-tease. Nassau County Detective Lt. Kevin Smith said, “The agreed amount was about $100 and then to further engage in an additional sex act — it was another $50.”
This isn’t the first time Scalia has been charged with prostitution, actually. In 2004, Scalia was arrested for a similar incident using a hot dog truck as a front for her prostitution services.
As for Scalia’s family, don’t expect any sympathy. One family member told The Post, “I’ve been bailing her out for years and it won’t do any good. She’ll just get up to her old tricks again.” Even her 13-year old son acknowledged why some jail time might serve Scalia some good and that perhaps “then she will learn her lesson.”
Federal authorities have attempted to combat prostitution occurring at truck driver road stops nationwide, where human trafficking continues to be a problem.
