In a tasteless scene from Sacha Baron Cohen’s contentious new film about football hooligans from Grimsby the Queen is infected with HIV.
While Mr Baron Cohen is no stranger to courting controversy the shocking scene is likely to elicit an even bigger backlash than the time he was attacked by Orthodox Jews for wearing tiny hotpants in Jerusalem.
In his latest film, Grimsby, which has already angered residents of the town, Her Majesty becomes infected when a child with the virus is assassinated, splattering her with blood – a move HIV charities have slammed as ‘inaccurate’ and perpetuating negative stereotypes about the disease
The Sun reports there is still some doubt over whether the gruesome scene will make the final cut of the film, which is due out next year.
A source told the paper: ‘Nothing would surprise you with Sacha’s comedy, but the scene with the Queen is bleak. It’s more gruesome than anything he has done before.’
