Author Ernest Greene Reinvents a Literary Classic with Kinky Novel Master of O

Master of O follows half-brothers Ray and Steven; two men with little in common except their shared passion for the dynamically beautiful O, a talented photographer with a secret life as a slave to the sexual whims of the competitive – and emotionally flawed – siblings.

“There are two sides to every story. Master of O is a re-imagination of the characters as seen from a dominant man’s point of view, rather than the submissive O’s,” said Greene. “I drew reality-based composites of people I’ve known from the BDSM culture and incorporated them into these rich characters.”

Greene has made three erotic films about the enigmatic O: 2006’s O, the Power of Submission, 2008’s The Surrender of O and 2012’s The Truth About O, all of which have featured his wife, legendary adult performer Nina Hartley. Master of O, however, is something new in terms of emotional complexity within the narrative.

“Like countless readers over the years, I found Story of O so compelling a tale but was disappointed by it for not being better,” said Greene. “I wanted to break down the walls of the cold, self-centered Steven and have him find someone who can give him the one thing he doesn’t have… love and slavery in the same place. In turn, I wanted O to have motivation for her passionate submission to him.”
