A Geelong teacher accused of starring in an online pornographic film with one of his former students has resigned.
The English teacher at Oberon High School at Belmont has been under investigation since February 1 after a graphic sex video emerged online and was quickly circulated among students.
The teacher’s alleged co-star in the film was said to be a former student, however there was no suggestion the pair was in a relationship while she was still at school.
Threats of a walkout by fellow teachers and parents had seen the teacher tender his resignation yesterday, before the official investigation had ended, News.com.au reported.
“This has had a big impact on us,” the unnamed teacher was quoted as saying.
“This has been quite traumatic.”
Oberon High School principal Alison Murphy said in a statement released this morning that the teacher tendered his resignation today and she had accepted it.
‘‘Obviously this has been a very disruptive time for our school community, and so I am hoping our school community can now continue to focus on providing all our students with the best possible education,’’ the statement said.
‘‘The matter is now closed and I have nothing further to add.’’
The teacher and the woman in the video, now aged 21, run a retail business together in Geelong, the website reported.
The film, which included a blindfold scene, triggered a fierce backlash at the school.
The teacher was on leave when his involvement in the sex video emerged and has not returned to school.
Earlier this month, Ms Murphy said the school was taking “very seriously” the allegations.
“I acted immediately when I was made aware of this matter, met with the teacher and contacted the Department,” she told The Age at the time.
Several parents are believed to have reported the incident to the school after their children were sent links to the online video.
