Let’s just get right to it: Women are watching a whole lot of the lesbian porn category compared to men.
In the study collaboration we never knew we wanted, BuzzFeed and Pornhub Insights — the research team for the world’s biggest porn site — culled “anonymized analytic data” to compile both the porn categories and porn stars men and women frequently search for into pretty-looking charts. Same-sex porn (both lesbians and gay men), “Teen,” “For Women,” and “Ebony” ranked among the top categories for women, while “Teen,” “MILF,” “Mature,” “Ebony,” and “Anal” were top categories for men. As far as the lesbian category, women were 132 percent more likely to search for it than men were.
Not what you think
When Pornhub broke down the individual categories women searched for way more than men, “For Women” took a slight lead over “Lesbian,” and “Solo Male,” “Hardcore,” and “Rough Sex,” rounded out the top five. Or, to borrow their phrase, “things get heated pretty quickly.” In addition to category and individual search terms (you’ll have to reference their charts for the more NSFW breakdown), the adult film stars men and women frequently watched were ranked, too.
Perhaps surprisingly, Kim Kardashain was the number one search for women in terms of porn stars, followed by Mimi Faust and MTV’s Teen Mom Farrah Abraham. Men were more “traditional,” steering away from reality stars and searching women well-known in the porn industry, including Lisa Ann, Madison Ivy, and Asa Akira. Miley Cyrus also happens to rank for both men and women despite her just dancing really badly with Robin Thicke.
Pornhub may have found the exact number of times women are searching for lesbian porn, but they’ve been searching for it well before this study. There are YouTube videos and Reddit Forums where women both lament why lesbian porn is preferable, as well as if watching it makes them, in fact, a lesbian. The latter answer is no, while the reason why it’s preferred obviously varies person-to-person. In general, however, “a dude in action isn’t really a sexual turn-on,” Monica Bielanko wrote in a story for YourTango, a dating and relationship site for women. Bielanko added:
