LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Lamar Odom, fallen NBA forward and ex-husband of Khloé Kardashian, has been hospitalized after ‘taking TEN herbal Viagra and drinking cognac during a four-day bender’ according to sources.
At around 3:15 p.m. PST, the former NBA star was found unconscious at Dennis Hof’s Love Ranch, at a legal brothel in Crystal, Nev., by two licensed prostitutes, Ryder Cherry and Monica Monroe.
The women began screaming for the manager — who called 911 (in this instance, the Nye County Dispatch Center) — TMZ reports. The manager rolled Lamar over on his side and saw a pinkish “mucus-type liquid coming out of his nose and mouth.”
Hof said, ‘It’s terrible. You got people, the girls that found him, out here that are very upset.
‘I hope he lives.’
Hof told the Los Angeles Times that Odom was taking herbal Viagra, but was not seen with any illegal drugs. “The girls at the ranch saw him at 6 a.m. and he was fine,” said Hof.
According to Hof’s media director, Richard Hunter, the herbal supplements were provided by the brothel. According to the Las Vegas Sun, “Police have received a warrant for a blood sample, which could determine if Odom suffered drug- or alcohol-related issues. It will be tested by Metro Police, the sheriff’s office said.”
The so-called “herbal viagra” Odom took, “Reload”, is a legal over-the-counter product, but was the subject of an FDA warning in 2013.
Odom was still breathing when found in his room at the brothel. According to the Nye County Sheriff’s Office, Odom was unresponsive when medics arrived at 3:34 p.m. local time. Odom was first brought to Desert View Hospital in nearby Pahrump, but then immediately transported by Pahrump Valley Fire and Rescue Ambulance (accompanied by a nurse) to Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas for further treatment. He arrived at the hospital at 5:30 p.m
At Desert View, doctors intubated him, which tends to indicate he was having difficulty breathing on his own.
Odom was reportedly stabilized at the scene, and was later prepared to be airlifted from Desert View to a Las Vegas-area hospital. A helicopter landed at 4:37 p.m. to transport Odom to the hospital, but his size made it impossible to transport him by air. Odom, whose career in the NBA included seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks, stands 6′ 10″.
Nye County Sheriff’s Office Detectives Cory Fowles and Michael Eisenloffel conducted an investigation on scene.
Odom, 35, Odom arrived at the Love Ranch on Saturday night around 6 p.m. According to Hof, his on-site manager had picked up Odom from a home in Las Vegas gated community on Saturday.
Images of his bill at the legal brothel have been released:
Born November 6, 1979 in New York, he was drafted by the Los Angeles Clippers in 1999, where he played four seasons before signing with the Miami Heat. One season later, Odom was traded to the Lakers along with other players for Shaquille O’Neal.
Odom was a key part of the Lakers championship teams in 2009 and 2010, but last played in the NBA in 2013. That same year, he was arrested for DUI, to which he pleaded no contest that December.
Later that month, Khloé Kardashian, his wife of five years, filed for divorce amid reports of Odom’s infidelity and substance abuse (although the divorce has yet to be finalized). Lamar’s promising NBA career was allegedly squandered largely due to a crack-cocaine addiction.
As a result of the divorce not yet being finalized, reports say Kardashian will make medical decisions for Odom, who lies in a medically-induced coma.
Kobe Bryant joined Khloe Kardasian at Odom’s hospital bedside Tuesday night, as the troubled basketball star fights for his life.
UPDATE – OCT 15 from New York’s Daily News:
Lamar Odom underwent what doctors believe to be a successful dialysis treatment after suffering kidney failure Wednesday, a source told the Daily News.
Khloe Kardashian’s estranged husband remained in critical condition and in a medically induced coma at Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas two days after the Queens native and former Los Angeles Laker was discovered unconscious by two prostitutes at the Love Ranch brothel. But tests over the next several days, including MRIs, would determine if the athlete’s 50-50 chance of survival would be upgraded.
“They were worried about his kidneys,” a source at the hospital told The News on Wednesday. “They were failing today, but they gave him dialysis. His doctors think he could be OK,” the source said with caution. “He is still critical, in ICU. So, anything can happen.”
