Las Vegas a new frontier for porn industry

LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews) — Porn producers are leaving the bright stars in Hollywood for the glittering lights in Las Vegas.

All the rules and regulations in California are driving adult film production to the Las Vegas Valley, and more porn films are being produced and shot in homes that could be in your neighborhood.

Porn production is invading the valley. “You never know what’s going on behind closed doors especially in this city, so even in a nice neighborhood…,” said porn extra Sarah Jane Woodall.

Woodall has witnessed firsthand the production of porn in one quiet central Las Vegas neighborhood.

The eastward movement of porn from Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley is being attributed to a condom law.

A couple of years ago, Los Angeles County voters passed measure “B,” which is a law that requires adult performers to use condoms during movie production.

Porn producers also need to apply for a permit with the health department to shoot sex scenes.

“We will see where we ultimately go,” said Steven Hirsch, the head of adult film studio Vivid Entertainment.

Hirsch contemplates his next strategic move, as he waits for the ruling by the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals on measure B.

A ruling is expected any day now, and a confirmation of the law could prove very bad for business in Los Angeles.

The man known as “The Porn King” envisions the future of his productions in Las Vegas.

“I think Las Vegas is interesting because (a) the proximity to LA and I think it’s an attractive place for some of the performers to move,” Hirsch said.

Porn stars Joanna Angel and Jesse Lee are already hearing talk about Las Vegas becoming a key site for filming porn. These women host a daily radio show dedicated to the adult industry. Vegas is on their radar. “If we have to start shooting in Vegas I might just shoot in Vegas, because I just shoot four to five days a month,” Angel said.

“If I go work in Vegas, it’s [just] going to be to work in Las Vegas,” Lee said. “I don’t see myself moving there.”

These adult performers might not move — but the production of porn is hustling its way east — moving into our neighborhoods, sound stages, and other production facilities off the strip.
