An aspiring Serbian diplomat is in hot water for displaying her mastery of the tools of foreign affairs.

Actually, as scandals go, this one that may have derailed the career of 27-year-old Vanja Hadzovic is pretty tame. But in Serbia, apparently, a sexy spread of social media shots is a big Balkan deal.

By American standards, the photos barely merit a PG-13 rating, showing Hadzovic looking somewhat seductive but displaying little beyond eye-catching decolletage. The young woman works at the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, however, so when the photos somehow turned up in the newspaper Blic, the politicians who run the place got all hot and bothered.

In fact, Serbia’s Foreign Secretary Ivan Mrkic says there may be a government investigation into how the obviously attractive woman came to be employed at the ministry.

One unnamed diplomat says that the woman is not qualified to hold a diplomatic post.

“There is no way that Hadzovic passed the security check, due to her provocative photos which can be easily seen on the Internet,” the source said.

But Mrkic pointed out that the employee was still a trainee and held no official diplomatic position yet. While the ministry is embarrassed by the attention-grabbing photo spread, Mrkic said that Hadzovic has every right to post photos of herself on social media.

He called her a good worker who “conscientiously carries out her everyday duties.”

As for Hadzovic herself, she says Blic simply pulled the photos off her social media sites on the internet, and the whole experience has left her distraught. She has since closed her social media accounts.

“I think I’m going to quit, because the situation is unbearable for everyone. I still do not know how to react,” she said, quoted by New York’s Daily News. “I’m still in shock.”

Earlier in her career, Hadzovic was a vice president in the youth division of Serbia’s Socialist Party, which was formerly led by Serbia’s now-deceased former leader and war crimes suspect Slobodan Milosevic.
