The San Francisco Young Democrats and Los Angeles Young Democrats Join the California Democratic Party in Calling for the Defeat of Prop 60, the Adult Film Initiative

LOS ANGELES — Both the San Francisco Young Democrats and the Los Angeles Young Democrats have voted to oppose Proposition 60, a November ballot initiative that would give any resident of California the power to sue adult performers if a condom isn’t visible in an adult film. The initiative has been opposed by the California Democratic Party, as well as the Democratic Parties of Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Diego.

“We’re glad Young Democrats from across the state are standing up against worker harassment,” says Eric Paul Leue, Executive Director of the Free Speech Coalition. “Proposition 60 is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Adult workers deserve the same privacy and protections as any other California worker. While claiming to protect them, Proposition 60 opens them up to harassment lawsuits from any resident of the state, regardless of standing, based solely for the type of movies they make. We call on all voters to help us defeat Prop 60.”

In addition to the Young Democrats of SF and LA, the California Democratic Party, and the Democratic Parties of Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Diego, Proposition 60 has been opposed by the California Republican Party, the California Libertarian Party, the Courage Campaign, the Harvey Milk Democratic Club, the Alice B Toklas LGBT Democratic Club, Equality California, San Francisco Medical Society, AIDS Project LA, SF AIDS Foundation, the LA LGBT Center, the Transgender Law Center, and the performer group APAC, among many, many others.

Over the past month, five of California’s largest papers have also asked voters to Vote No on Proposition 60.
