Bollywood Star Veena Malik Sentenced to 26 Years for ‘Blasphemy’ by Pakistani Court

This is the ‘blasphemous’ moment that landed Bollywood star Veena Malik with a 26 year jail sentence.

A Pakistani court has decided that the sequence, which featured in a television programme in May, is deeply offensive and should result in prison sentences for four people involved.

The 30-year-old actress, along with her husband Asad Bashir Khan Khattak, the owner of the company that aired the programme Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman and TV host Shaista Wahidi were given 104 years in jail between them this week.

The court objects to the use of a “contemptuous” qawwali – a traditional form of South Asian music – in the programme.
