The “Teardrop Rapist,” wanted for 35 sex assaults around Los Angeles, was linked today to yet another attack — just one day after the city offered a $50,000 reward for tips leading to his capture.
The most recent sex assault, on June 15 at 5:30 a.m., was reported by a 29-year-old Hispanic woman who was walking near 25th Street and Naomi Avenue, CBS Los Angeles reported.
The woman told cops that she was approached by a man trying to talk to her, who then flashed a handgun and forced her into an alleyway. He attempted to assault her but fled on foot when a vehicle pulled into the alley, the Los Angeles Times reported
The sexual predator — known as the Teardrop Rapist because of the tear tattoo on his face — has been eluding police since 1996. An assault linked to him in April was his first attack since 2005, according to the Associated Press.
All the incidents connected to the serial rapist have happened between 5 and 8 a.m.
“The suspect typically walked up to each victim and engaged them in conversation before producing a knife or firearm. He would then walk them to a secluded area and sexually assault them,” police told CBS Los Angeles.
He’s described as a Hispanic male between 5 feet 2 inches tall and 5 feet 6 inches tall, 40 to 55-years-old with brown hair. He has one or two teardrop tattoos under one of his eyes, but cops told the station that he may have had the tattoos removed.
Anyone with any information should call 1-877-527-3247, a number specifically reserved for the Teardrop crime. There is a $50,000 reward ready for anyone with information leading to his arrest.
