LAS VEGAS – Las Vegas is known as Sin City for a reason and now the city’s reputation could get naughtier. The porn industry’s beef with a new Los Angeles law that forces adult actors to wear protection could prompt porn productions to relocate to Las Vegas.
Alura Jenson is an adult performer. She has closely followed Los Angeles’ condom controversy.
“Oh, it’s going to happen. I’ve already heard from several people. They are making arrangements to move themselves over here,” she said. “Nobody likes to be told what to do. It should be a choice whether or not these performers want to wear condoms in their shoots.”
The X-rated industry is already in bed with Las Vegas. The AVN Adult Entertainment Expo takes place here each January. While partying here, a lot of the porn stars also work – appearing on camera for spicy sex scenes and plenty of dirty talk, all with a Sin City backdrop.
“There are some directors that want to move out to Las Vegas,” said adult performer Gavin Steele. “I know a big company that relocated to Las Vegas already, and I think that’s definitely going to happen. I don’t think that shooting in LA will completely die out.”
“The contributions that the tax would bring to the city would really help in the recovery economically,” Jenson said.
County officials are looking into the licensing and permitting the adult industry would face. Las Vegas appears to have fewer regulations on the books than Los Angeles.
The Nevada Film Office helps movie productions come to the Silver State to give Nevada exposure, but the agency does not aid porn productions.
