Pinup Girl Clothing announces the release of “The Magic of Mary Blair Collection” by Pinup Couture for Spring/Summer 2015. A first look at the vibrant assortment of twelve dresses and eight skirts (in sizes XS to 4X) is online now at PinupGirlClothing.com. The entire collection will be available online Monday, April 27th, and Pinup Girl Clothing’s Burbank boutique will launch the line with an in-store party Saturday, April 25th (3606 W Magnolia Blvd, Burbank, CA 91505, 818.559.9586), before its annual “Pinup Parade in the Park” event at Disneyland on Sunday, April 26.

The playful line of 1950s and ‘60s-style dresses and skirts, inspired by the legendary Disney artist/animator’s colorful work, is now available online for pre-order ahead of its late April launch.

“This collection is a dream come true for Pinup Girl Clothing,” said Pinup Girl Clothing’s Creative Director Micheline Pitt. “We are all thrilled to work with the estate of Mary Blair and to continue to promote her legacy and our mission to provide Couture for Every Body, especially couture that’s as adorable as this is!”.

The cheery collection emphasizes Blair’s original vintage illustrations on Pinup Girl’s flirty confections and incorporates Blair’s whimsical novelty motifs of travel—such as trains, planes, and caricatures of commuters, and girlish flair like umbrellas, butterflies, kittens, lips, and roses. These designs have been incorporated on classic Pinup Couture designs, including the ‘60s-style Jenny Dress which features a full gathered skirt, the stunning ‘50s-style Heidi Dress, which showcases a sweetheart neckline and covered belt, and the sleek and sexy Evangeline Dress, a fitted, wiggle-style style making its debut in this collection.

“I started my career in animation, and Mary is my idol,” said Pitt. “She accomplished so much, refusing to be overlooked in a male-dominated world, and stands out as inspiration for all graphic designers, illustrators, innovators, and dreamers today.”

Pinup Girl Clothing is honored to partner with Mary Blair’s Family Estate to spotlight the artist’s accomplishments and contributions to the twentieth century with this collection of New Look-reminiscent frocks.

ABOUT PINUP GIRL CLOTHING

Founded in 1999, Pinup Girl Clothing produces and showcases vintage-inspired garments, styled after classic 1940s, ‘50s, and ‘60s silhouettes, but with a modern woman in mind, coining the term “pinup-style clothing”. Headed by CEO and co-founder and Head Designer Laura Byrnes, this LA-based, predominately female-run company believes in “Couture for Everybody”, a movement dedicated to providing an array of women’s sizes from XS to 4X. “We believe that all women deserve the right to look and feel beautiful,” said Byrnes. “Our clothing is made to empower women, allowing them to be the best versions of themselves.”

ABOUT MARY BLAIR

Mary Blair was best known by her work for The Walt Disney Studios in the 1940s through ‘60s. She created enchanting, playful, and inventive illustrations that perfectly captured the mid-century modern aesthetic in cheerful detail. Blair’s whimsical use of bold graphics, juxtaposition of complementary and contrasting colors, and exuberant imaginativeness has been unmatched since. Refusing to be ignored in a male-dominated industry, Blair prevailed in showcasing her talents across animated and live action films, advertising, clothing, greeting cards, retail window displays, theatrical sets, and children’s books.
