The Tunisian interior minister warned in September of 2013 that women were traveling to Syria to engage in “sex jihad,” where they hoped to assist in the war against President Bashar Assad by having sexual relations with countless militants.
In late June, Egyptian cleric Mazher Shahin claimed the Muslim Brotherhood has taken the notion of “sex jihad” to a new level with a fatwa permitting “anal jihad.” It apparently states that when militants run out of women to turn to, they may turn to one another.
While Shahin speaks passionately about the subject, it is likely his claims are just propaganda against the recently-ousted Muslim Brotherhood.
“We have recently heard of a new kind of jihad, called ‘anal jihad,’” Shahin began, according to a translation by the Middle East Media Research Institute. “Do you know what that is? They practice homosexuality with one another, thinking, wrongly, that this constitutes jihad for the sake of Allah.”
