Failed threesome led Australian man to commit 2011 murder-suicide, Tasmanian coroner says

A GUNMAN who shot dead a Devonport man and wounded the victim’s girlfriend before killing himself was disappointed when a threesome with two female friends did not eventuate, a Tasmanian coroner has found.

John Clements was furious after turning up at his former girlfriend’s house and discovering the plans for a threesome had fallen through, the Mercury reports.

The 46-year-old had planned to sleep with ex Kylie Hales and current girlfriend Helen Scott.

But Hales had spent the night with her ex-husband and when she returned to her home in Devonport, Tasmania, Clements assaulted her after going to her bedroom.

He then left her house.

A frightened Hales called a friend for help — Benjamin Aherne — but when Clements returned he shot Aherne dead, injured Hales and then turned the gun on himself.

“His expectation of sexual gratification by means of the proposed threesome was disappointed either shortly before or immediately after he entered the bedroom,’’ said coroner Michael Brett.
