GoDaddy Requires Written Authorization To Move Domains

After supporting the SOPA cause and now being pushed to the wall – loosing a record 21,000 domain registrations in one single day, Godaddy have started doing another thing which may also affects its stand in the registration business by blocking people from moving their domain names to other registrars in order to be able to hold the market. The company, recently joined others, supporting the STOP ONLINE PRIVACY ACT – which many believed to be the worst thing that will ever happen to the internet. If the bill is being approved by State house, it means that everything we’re doing online would be monitored and there won’t be any hidden place for your online details because you’re sharing them with some parts of the government either legitimately or not.

Now, Godaddy in order not to lose many other registered domains because of this silly mistake, has just blocked all whois lookup and also ordered customers to send in a well written letter to approve moving of their domain names from their service – and the company hasn’t done anything similar to this before, maybe they thought it will help them but I can smell something different here, which is, another problem for the company.

In the wake of this, customers and those concerned about this move have just started a thread on the popular social networking site, Reddit and the thread is the hottest among other thread on the site today because everyone there is sharing their experiences with the company and even, some of them shared information on how people can report Godaddy to ICANN – the International organization which monitored everything about name registrations.

So, if you’re experiencing the same thing from the company, I have below the contact email for ICANN where you can report any challenges you’re facing pertaining to Godaddy domain issue.
