Under the orders from Supreme Court of Pakistan, a total 15,000 porn websites have been blocked. This blockade of websites for users of Pakistan on internet is done by PTA (Pakistan Telecommunication Authority). Full list of blocked porn websites for Pakistan is still unknown for certain reasons officially.
This was officially announced by Nawab Liaquat Ali Khan, Parliamentary Secretary for Information Technology. This comes as a bold step from the responsible authorities of Pakistan government, which will surely serves a better decision among rationalizing the content on internet.
“It is a serious issue and we are trying to address it,” said the IT parliamentary secretary, while replying to a Calling Attention Notice, adding that the government was mindful of the situation.
Previously, a survey was revealed where Pakistan was declared most sex starved country based on the search statistics of countries by Google Zeitgeist. Being on top troubled Pakistani nation and online bloggers. Later, it was also picked by national media, Daily Times and international media (Fox News) as well claiming Pakistan as a Pornistan.
Remember all these websites were running from the servers outside Pakistan and no owner of any porn website was of Pakistani, so these websites or the persons could not be penalized.
Khan also tried to explain the future strategy of filtering the content within Pakistan. He quotes the examples of China and Indian content firewalls installed for automatic filtering for whole country. He also signifies the need of an expensive but much needy Automated Filtration System for Pakistan’s internet gateway.
It is also quite worthy to mention that if such system is installed for Pakistan it will not be able to block all porn websites for Pakistan.
