Taylor Lianne Chandler receives a nomination for the 2016 AVN Awards. The notorious intersex lover of Olympic Gold Medalist Michael Phelps, her nomination is for Best Marketing Campaign (Individual Project) for “Going for the Gold,” a Vivid Entertainment movie release about the alleged relationship. Taking place at The Joint in Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas on Saturday, January 23, the AVN Awards celebrates the best of the best in the adult entertainment.
“After the world found out about Michael Phelps and me, I was made to feel less than a woman,” says Taylor. “The world accused Michael of being gay, and being less than a man, for being with me; but Vivid and the director of Going for the Gold made being intersex sexy, desirable, and pleasurable.” says Chandler.
Promotional work for the film included numerous interviews as well as the release of a tell-all book, The Making of Going for the Gold, by Riverdale Avenue Books. Taylor, who was born with both female and male parts, takes the reader through the experience of being thrust into the limelight, the decision-making process to make a porn video, and deciding to become a voice for those born with double genitalia. “I wanted to make this movie to celebrate this incredible time in my life, and also to open the conversation about people born with both male and female genitalia, so that there will be more education and understanding,” said Taylor of the book’s release.
“’Intersex’ is an umbrella term which has replaced ‘hermaphrodite,’ which is now considered politically incorrect,” says Taylor. “In my case, I was born with both a penis and a uterus. Even though my original birth certificate says that I was born male, I always felt I was female.”
Continues Taylor, “I am proud of all we achieved, and receiving this nomination on Transgender Remembrance Day is the icing on the cake. After hundreds of interviews in over 100 countries and 45 languages, no one can say they don’t know what an intersex person is anymore.”
For over three decades, the AVN Awards show, dubbed “the Oscars of adult” by Entertainment Weekly, has been the adult industry’s biggest night and the award itself, the industry’s highest honor. With a stylish red carpet pre-show and lavish star-studded ceremony, AVN celebrates outstanding achievements in “the business of pleasure”; this year’s Awards Show will be hosted by Anikka Albrite and Joanna Angel. About Taylor Chandler:
Taylor Lianne Chandler was outed recently not only as the girlfriend of 22-time Olympic Medalist Michael Phelp, but intersex as well, meaning she had male genitalia, but no testicles, while also having a uterus and no ovaries. The former interpreter and consultant made the cover of countless other media outlets shortly thereafter; the resulting tabloid frenzy has caused the DC-based 42-year-old to shutter her consulting firm, come out publicly, and focus on the media attention being directed at her and the subject of intersexuality. Phelps, whom she met on the dating app Tinder, is currently in rehab after being arrested for drunk driving in October.
