In addition to the website nominations, Wasteland’s affiliate program, Spicecash, also received a nod in the Affiliate Program of the Year category.
While the nominations are far from the first Wasteland has received (among others, the Wasteland won the 2012 XBIZ Award for Specialty/Alternative Site of the Year), owner and founder Colin Rowntree said it’s “certainly gratifying to be considered for more.”
“Naturally, winning awards isn’t the primary reason why I put so much work into our sites, movies or affiliate program, but it’s definitely nice to be recognize by your peers,” Rowntree said. “I’d be particularly happy if Spicecash were to win, because it could help shine a light on the fact there’s a lot more to promote through the program than Wasteland alone, like SciFi Dreamgirls and Femdom Bride, two truly fantastic specialty sites which convert very nicely.”
Launched in 1994, Wasteland.com is among the longest-running adult subscription sites of any kind, BDSM or otherwise. Soon entering its 22nd year of business, Rowntree describes the site as an “ongoing labor of love.”
“When I first launched Wasteland, all I knew was there was there had to be a big audience for BDSM online; whether I’d be able to tap into it effectively was an entirely different story,” Rowntree said. “Through all the ups and downs, the irritation of dealing with occasionally fickle intermediaries like merchant banks and payment processors, what has kept me going is the sense of personal investment and pride I take in the site, and in my relationships with our members, fans and business partners. At the end of the day, those relationships are what it’s all about.”
