Want some lingerie with your latte? No problem, one city council in Washington state has decided.
An eyebrow-raising coffee shop in Spokane, Wash., and its scantily-clad staff don’t qualify as an adult entertainment establishment, the city council decided Monday night.
That marked a win for Triple XXX Espresso, whose owner had argued her mostly-bare baristas — who have caused a stir locally with their bikini uniforms and with topless Tuesdays and Thursdays — shouldn’t be forced to cover up.
The council agreed, citing vague language in an existing ordinance defining appropriate attire, and it paved the way for the baristas to keep showing some skin.
“If you don’t like it, it is your choice to come here or not,” Triple XXX barista Sarah Etchart told local ABC affiliate KXLY.
The decision capped a community-wide battle over the coffee shop, with more than 60 people, many of them protestors, attending the meeting to express dismay over the bikini-clad baristas. When the decision was handed down, many stormed out in disgust, Spokane’s CBS affiliate KREM reported.
The Coalition for Community Values had protested against the shop on Thursday, arguing it should be considered an adult establishment and regulated as such.
“It’s absolutely wrong,” protestor Shelly Grant told KXLY.
Triple XXX Espresso’s baristas outfits might not be changing, but its name is, according to KXLY. The owner plans to rename it Bare Beans, KXLY reported.
