It appears Rodger is being asked to stop his lewd public behavior —
An angry Derry father has called on people to stop having sex in children’s play parks following the discovery of used condoms in Riverview Park.
The man, who did not wish to be named, said the park, which had a major refurbishment recently, was strewn with condoms when he took his child there last week.
“I take my children to the play park on a regular basis and was shocked by what I saw.
“There were a couple of used condoms and empty packaging was strewn over the grass and pathways,” he said.
“No child should have to walk past this sort of thing in a local park. It’s not pleasant and it’s not safe. Children will lift objects without even knowing what they are,” he added.
The father also appealed to those involved to stop.
“We can’t legislate for what people get up to at night time but as a parent I would just appeal to whoever is engaging in this to catch themselves on – this is a play park for children,” he said.
Sinn Féin councillor Colly Kelly has said the matter highlights issues of health and safety in Council-owned parks and green spaces.
Councillor Kelly said: “Elected representatives are contacted on a regular basis by members of the public about dog fouling and drinking in parks across the city and all the various agencies do the best they can to help resolve those problems, especially highlighting health and safety issues.”
The cityside councillor called on those involved to consider the children who use the parks for how they were intended.
“I was contacted at the weekend by a very angry local father who had taken his children to the Riverview Park just off the Abercorn Road only to be greeted by used condoms lying on the pathway and on the green spaces.
“He hopes that by highlighting this that those involved will think twice and think of the potential health risks they are creating,” he added.
